Coming on like a mod meet outside Hobbycraft, this outstanding parka by Japanese nutcases Facetasm splices the chilly weather staple with your granny’s half finished kitting. The resulting fuckshow leaves Quadraphonic cultural baggage behind and Britpop’s reappropriation of the garment forgotten. This is the future of menswear right here – wearable, traditional, but augmented with an avalanche of pendulous wool.
The brand’s head man, Hiromichi Ochiai, examines streetwear through a crooked avant-garde lens and while expensive, Facetasm’s output rarely fails to surprise. Personally, I think the hand-knit additions make neat reference to the Inuit origins of the parka and actually make a lot of sense both historically and aesthetically. The fervent Ted Baker fan may disagree.
You might get lucky and catch this piece in store at Dover Street Market, alternatively head to Facetasm’s e-store. You can expect a good £700 bill for your trouble, but this is a unique piece. One that would provoke talking point action for years to come. And besides, Ted Baker is shit.
