Not everyone’s a blazerman. Lately, the ceaseless noise of sporty-luxey, rapper endorsed, yapping logos seems to have muffled the quiet blazer’s relevance. An observation that pleases me. If everyones’ gaze is drawn by planetary sized logos and badges, that leaves a gap in the market for some simple, restrained style. Cop this from The North Face Purple Label and you’ll be a refreshing minuet in a room full of sheep jerking and thrashing.
As is usual with the Japan only Purple Label, the finish is sublime. Beautiful, flat, polyester twill, popper fastenings and a nod to the utilitarian through zippered waist pockets – just perfect. And just look at that shape, neither too loose, nor too constricting, it’s just begging to be thrown over anything.
And I do mean pretty much anything. The usefulness of a premium piece like this cannot be understated. With a tee and jeans, lopped over a sweatshirt, teamed with a simple white shirt, toss on a tie for a wedding… The navy blazer (particularly this navy blazer) is the muscular foundation of a decent wardrobe. Through understatement, it overstates your presence. Not a charge you could level at the latest ‘banger’ from Palace.
