I frequently wonder who the audience is for pieces like this? Mad-technical, but with the stylistic airs and graces of a radical Korean architect? Who wears this stuff? When I see documentaries featuring Arctic boffins miserably tape-measuring glaciers, they’re all done up in pretty standard Berghaus and North Face. They’re not squinting into the sun ‘gramming their look. Neither are they wearing 500 quid F/CE tops like this.

I guess this kind of thing is aimed at tosspieces like me. The kind of tool who, in weather like this, has to wear two pairs of socks to nip to the offy. The kind of tool who has no knowledge or particular interest in what Pliantex technical fabric or Nanga Down is, but, come January, will happily sit refreshing Kafka’s sale pages in the hope of a steal.

Style-wise this thing’s on point. Pop-over, check. Cyber-looking zipped chest pocket, check. Snap button opening down both sides, check and check. And I think (the continual preponderance of tired Barbour jackets notwithstanding) that the quilt finish can still hold its head up as reasonable.

I’d like to think that somewhere there are some especially well funded science types for whom F/CE outerwear is their go-to. Guys who know their Jakobshavn, from their Han Kjøbenhavn. Guys who,  occasionally, put down the Mag Base Drill to toss up a quick fit pic.
