Tigre Brocante having a ‘moment’

Like velvet and synthetic fur, mohair is having a moment. I’m not especially concerned with ‘moments’, they usually lead to a homogenised high-street of sweat-shopped filth masquerading as disposable fun. But then, if you’re a regular reader I expect you consider snuffling through Zaraland as abhorrent as I – preferring to pick and choose specific, well made, subjugation free garments far from the ravenous clamour of Oxford Circus barbarity. In which case, this might be for you.

The brand Tigre Brocante remains especially niche, even amongst the labels usually covered here, due primarily to the fact that no UK retailers host it. This beautiful cardigan comes in two colour-ways and is available, solely it seems, from the Tigre Brocante web store. At just under £200, it’s hardly a spontaneous purchase, but you can at least expect the usual high quality Japanese make for your money. And check those details…

The small buttons, which I can’t help but associate with 1950’s Doris Day style twin-sets, are pretty fly. But the killer for me is the finishing around the collar and front seams. Often this would be just simply hemmed on cut-and-sew knitwear, but a much more robust job has been done here. Providing neat detail and further evidence that replacing the grotesquery of the high-street with the hassle of international proxy service shopping is always worthwhile.
